Bright and shiny and new

I do love January...the promise of a new, perfect year.
I ordered my Frankie diary from Angie last year and now can finally use it!

I've been taking a lot of time lately to work out what I like doing, what will make me a happier person who does more and naps less. With that in mind here are my resolutions for 2012...

In a year I will be able to:
- Run 20 minutes on the treadmill and not want to shoot myself
- Pick an entire salad out of my veggie garden (I'm talking Serious Salad here, none of that iceberg lettuce and sliced tomato crap...more on this later)
- Say 2012 was a really great year

I want to:
- Think less and create more (I overthink everythink and do nothing)
- Get my website up and running
- Be more attentive to my blog...poor malnourished thing
- Get my Honours degree
- Be a better friend (They generally deserve it)

Good luck to all of us :) I have a good feeling about this.

Here are some more pics of the amazing Frankie Diary, courtesy of Miss Lucky Pony again...

Thank you.

Today, while searching for paper, I came across the card my mom made me when I was baptised. It had this e. e cummings poem written on it, which I have always loved. It never fails to put me in a good mood.

i thank You God for most this amazing
day: for the leaping greenly spirits of trees
and a blue true dream of sky; and for everything
wich is natural which is infinite which is yes

(i who have died am alive again today,
and this is the sun's birthday;this is the birth
day of life and love and wings:and of the gay
great happening illimitably earth)

how should tasting touching hearing seeing
breathing any- lifted from the no
of all nothing-human merely being
doubt unimaginable You?

(now the ears of my ears awake and
now the eyes of my eyes are opened)

Lest we forget

Its been a weird week. An introspective, self-exploring (not like that!) kind of week. And when you just keep seeing all the horrors that the world holds, its time to go back and remember the good.
(Note: I am very bad at this, to me the light at the end of the tunnel is the oncoming train)

So thank God for those days when you can sleep in and listen to the rain, the new totally-frikkin-awesome skirt i bought from JayJays, cupcakes that look like burgers, bento boxes, the Rocky Horror soundtrack on repeat, Ric O'Barry, long baths, cupcakes that don't look like burgers, Eddie Izzard, new chats with old friends, old chats with new friends, people who want to change the world and believe they can, Charly's Bakery, girls who like girls, boys who like boys, boys who like girls, girls who like boys, family, Kauai smoothies, old ladies with purple rinse in their hair, Steers veggie burgers, Half Circle printing shop, Skermunkil jewellery, fine art, the Old Biscuit Mill, Fabric World, girls who wear pleather leggings, design and all the good it could do, perforation tools, cool pop-culture reference t-shirts, Flight of the Conchords, garden gnomes, snow globes, books, external hard drives, the magic wand tool, girls with tattoos, boys with tattoos, people who blog, people who bake, brogues, ankle boots, Doc Martens, Aussie 3-minute Miracle, wearing your heart on your sleeve, keeping things close to yourself, Oliver Jeffers, My Little Pony, Hello Kitty, lego, music boxes, Pokemon, goldfish, bubbles, scanners, photocopiers, maltesers, Palmer's Cocoa Butter, Pure Poison perfume, stationery, lomo photography, typography, handmade birthday cards, blankets, animals that love you, collaging shiz, people who knit, people who crochet, girls who wear legwarmers, ribbon, pin-up girls, tongue web piercings, Disney movies, 80s music, liquid eyeliner, black opaque tights, feeling invincible, feeling vulnerable, feeling like a good person, knowing you can be a better person, Farmville and being a nerd, teacups, ducks in the bath, the kitsch, the unusual, the comfort zones, the monotony when we need it, the change when we don't, the ability to overcome your inner cynic, the moment you realise...

Life is fucking beautiful, no matter what they say.

I know, I know.

Today was not the best day of my life. It was long-winded, filled with marketing buzzwords, and people who need to seek therapy.

However...let's try this positivity thing on and see how it fits.

Good things that happened today...

1. Concept review did not leave Star and I questioning our future in the industry.
2. I actually got to see Lisa and indulge our competition fetish :)
3. Liz gave me a Hello Kitty ring! Yay!
4. We got easter eggs in Critical Studies
5. Star and I, facing near-starvation, made an amazing supper of chicken burgers with avo, oven chips and the most amazing Woolies 'vanilla creme with berry coulis'-type dessert. Divine!
6. I had a bath run for me by my dear wife (see above), complete with bubbles and candles!
7. People commented on my blog and even blogged about it! It makes me happy that people actually read this :)
8. I am about to watch FlashForward on pvr.
9. I smell like honey and yoghurt bubble bath
10. I don't have to wake up early tomorrow!

So all in all, the day was saved. As my dear Marc Johns says...

Oh the horror

Well today is the dreaded Valentine's Day. It's pretty impossible to ignore...some spend it feeding heart-shaped chocolates and haikus to each other, others pretend to be happily independent whilst sobbing into their pillows, and some spit on couples and curse them for getting some.

I would usually be heading the Anti-love brigade...making everyone watch Sweeney Todd or something. But this year I think I'm a little more comfortable, a little less bothered and a little more aware of traps that are easy to fall into. No one likes a Cinderella complex.
Anyhoo, I still ended up with roses, lindt chocolate and pink vitamin water. Thanks mumsy!

So if you're having a bit of a nobody-will-ever-love-me-and-I'm-going-to-be-found-dead-eaten-by-alsations sort of day...then read the Cosmo, be glad you're not going to sprain something attempting those sort of maneuvers, and make something delicious off Bittersweet. Day saved.

Oh, and love's just around the corner.

And it goes a little something like this

I’ve always been told to count my blessings.

But when days happen to be filled with traffic, idiotic people and malfunctioning printers, I’d much rather eat a pair of toenail clippers than be positive. So this blog is me giving optimism a try- attempting to find 365 things that I am grateful for or add value to my life. Some are things (or people) that I couldn’t live without, whilst others may be a bit less epic. But they all bring joy in some form. OK then.
