Happy Valentines

Happy V-day my dear ones.

Bla bla bla it's commercial crap, but so is pretty much every other day, so why not enjoy this one? :)

Maybe you've found the love of your life. Maybe you're waiting. Maybe you've just been given the biggest satin teddy bear ever made. Maybe the only person to give you a valentine is your mom. Maybe you're hanging onto high expectations, but also hope. Maybe your heart's broken up into a million little pieces and you may or may not assault a happy couple today. Maybe the love of your life, for now, is just you.

Whatever it may be, have a good V-day.

My favourite author

“He awoke each morning with the desire to do right, to be a good and meaningful person, to be, as simple as it sounded and as impossible as it actually was, happy. And during the course of each day his heart would descend from his chest into his stomach. By early afternoon he was overcome by the feeling that nothing was right, or nothing was right for him, and by the desire to be alone. By evening he was fulfilled: alone in the magnitude of his grief, alone in his aimless guilt, alone even in his loneliness. I am not sad, he would repeat to himself over and over, I am not sad. As if he might one day convince himself. Or fool himself. Or convince others--the only thing worse than being sad is for others to know that you are sad. I am not sad. I am not sad. Because his life had unlimited potential for happiness, insofar as it was an empty white room. He would fall asleep with his heart at the foot of his bed, like some domesticated animal that was no part of him at all. And each morning he would wake with it again in the cupboard of his rib cage, having become a little heavier, a little weaker, but still pumping. And by the midafternoon he was again overcome with the desire to be somewhere else, someone else, someone else somewhere else. I am not sad.”

Lizzy I love you

I started my Honours in Illustration on Wednesday. So now, twice a week, I drive off to Stellenbosch and draw things. It's good fun so far.

One of my favourite illustrators of all time is Lizzy Stewart.
She recently started a tumblr which she uses as a sort-of diary.
It's funny and honest, these are some of my favourites...

Spot the difference

This week I am obsessed with the Kristen Bell sloth youtube vid...have you seen it?
I could not stop laughing.

Jess and I took Em to Spur for the first time since she got back from Australia, and we saw first-hand just how much she'd missed Spur sauce...

(Skip to 02:00 on the video and see what I mean)

He's coming for the party??? (lol)

This may or may not be the worst DIY post ever, but I'm going with it!

Disclaimer: I am a terrible DIYer. Due to my all-or-nothing personality, I'm either repainting absolutely everything or doing feck-all.

I've recently redone my room (mission of the year) and wanted a magnetic board to put on the wall. Since I wanted a specific fabric I decided to try make it myself. Judge as you will :)

1. Find an old baking tray, some fabric to cover it with, wood glue and a paintbrush.

2. Paint the baking tray with wood glue, covering the whole thing. Then lay the fabric on top, smoothing it out with your hands. Turn the tray over and glue the excess fabric to the back.

 3. Stick it to the wall with double-sided tape and there it is :)
I used my Bow Peep magnets and some old kiddies fridge magnets to make it pretty.

Bow Peep

So a while ago, my friend Leila of Bow Peep asked me to help her with her brand 'face lift'.
We are so similar (with pretty much identical Pinterest boards), so the process was a really fun and creative one :) No client from hell here!

The Bow Peep brand was already strong, but just needed a little cleaning up. Since Leila's products are usually patterned, I wanted to give them a nice clean background to stand out against. Hence the use of lined paper and faded maps against modern typography.
Here's how it turned out...

Old logo

New logo (2 formats)

New tags and labels

New business card

I also redid her blog and online store if you want to have a look.
We're working on a new project now which I'm really excited about! Will share the details when it's far enough along :)

Have you seen Lee Price's work?
She paints hyper-realistic (often self) portraits in oil.

I'm a little obsessed.
